Do you ever wonder why you feel so tired, even exhausted while others seem to just get on with their lives? Chronic health conditions can leave you feeling this way. Let's explore why.
Living with a long‑term health condition involves a constant layer of background work that is unpaid, invisible, and requires ongoing readjustments just to get through the day.
It often means managing or monitoring symptoms and flare‑ups while still trying to keep up with daily life. It is organising life around pain, fatigue, and symptoms, constantly weighing the impact of countless small decisions made throughout the day. Simple activities that others do automatically such as daily chores, commuting, or running errands can require far more energy than you have available, leaving little or no time for socialising.
There is no clocking off at the end of the day. There is no pause button when you are tired and in desperate need of a good night’s sleep. The emotional load can take its toll too. Feeling guilty for not being able to do it all, grieving the life you expected, and managing other people’s expectations on top of everything else. The emotional weight often goes unseen by others, leaving you feeling isolated and alone.
